United Architects of the Philippines
The United Architects of the Philippines is the Official Voice for Architects throughout the country. The UAP was formed through the “unification” of three architectural organizations: the Philippine Institute of Architects, The League of Philippine Architects and the Association of Philippine Government Architects. It became the Bonafide Professional Organization of Architects upon receiving Accreditation Number 001 from the Professional Regulations Commission. Thus, UAP was the first professional organization recognized by the Republic.
With the passing of the new architecture law or Republic Act No. 9266, UAP becomes the IAPOA or the Integrated Accredited Professional Organization of Architects.
UAP is composed of chapter organizations which help it implement its objectives. UAP Makati Chapter was one of the very first chartered chapters. Since being chartered in November 21, 1977, the Chapter has been led by 23 presidents, produced 5 national presidents and has had 5 members given the most prestigious award by the national organization, which is the Likha Award.

The United Architects of the Philippines is the Official Voice for Architects throughout the country. The UAP was formed through the “unification” of three architectural organizations: The Philippine Institute of Architects, The League of Philippine Architects and the Association of Philippine Government Architects. It became the Bonafide Professional Organization of Architects upon receiving Accreditation Number 001 from the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).
Since being chartered on November 21, 1977, the Chapter has been led by 33 presidents to date, produced 6 national presidents, has had 7 members (including previous charter members) given the most prestigious award by the national organization, which is the Likha Award, with 2 of them also honored by the state as National Artists in the field of Architecture.
In 1977, in line with the expansion program of then UAP National President, Leandro V. Locsin, another chapter was added to the national organization. The UAP Makati Chapter, with then 30 members, was chartered on November 21, 1977 and a very memorable induction program was held at the Architectural Center Club (ACCI) on February 23, 1978.
The charter president of the UAP Makati Chapter was Ar. Felipe Mendoza. The charter members were Francis L. Arcenas, Carlos D. Arguelles(+), Carlos B. Banaag(+), Renato S. Berroya, Jesus M. Bondoc(+), Susanna S. Castillo, Gabino A. de Leon(+), Ricardo S. dela Rosa, Jr., Antonio S. Dimalanta(+) ,Francisco B. Fajardo(+), Gabriel P. Formoso(+), Ruperto Gaite(+), Froilan Hong, Leandro V. Locsin(+), Jaime C. Marquez, Geronimo V. Manahan(+), Manuel T. Manosa(+), Engracio L. Mariano(+), Felipe M. Mendoza(+), Primitivo Milan, Ruben Payumo(+), Ruben Protacio, Carmencita Rosales, Oscar S. Salvacion, Augusto Santos(+), Antonio T. Sindiong(+), Rolando Tiamzon, Cesar Vergel de Dios, Severino C. Villarama(+) and Rogelio G. Villarosa.
The Charter Members of the Chapter are prolific, with 6 having served as National President, 6 bestowed the highest recognition of UAP which is the Likha, and 2 recognized by the State as National Artists. From 30 members, the Chapter has now more than a thousand in its roster.
The Chapter has had 25 members elevated to the prestigious College of Fellows. The most recent one was in 2014.
Of special pride to UAP Makati Chapter is the recognition of its members as LIKHA Awardees, the highest bestowed award by the UAP National Organization. These distinguished members are Felipe Mendoza, Gabriel Formoso, Leandro Locsin, Francisco Mañosa and more recently, another esteemed addition to the group, Philip Recto.
During President Corazon C. Aquino’s term, she conferred to Leandro V. Locsin the recognition as National Artist in the field of Architecture. In 2009, then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo awarded another distinguished member of the Chapter, Francisco T. Mañosa, as National Artist for Architecture.
